Google docs is a handy app as it supports Android and iOS Platform or you can even access it using your browser.
How to Check Word Count in Google Docs
Viewing Word count in Google Docs is quite easy and straightforward as there are two simple methods to do this.but one of this method only applies to Desktop Users as Keyboard shortcuts are not meant for Android or iOS Apps but for mobile devices you get a handy option to quickly check the Word count.
How to check the word count on Google Docs from your Desktop.
Google Docs can show you Word count of the entire document or just the selected portion of the document. also, You can check Word Count using Google Docs toolbar or by Using a combination of Keyboard Shortcuts on your Computer and in this article we are going to cover both the ways.
Using Google Docs Toolbar
Step 1: Visit docs.google.com and Sign in with your credentials if Required.
Step 2: Now Select any Existing document you want to see the word count from or just create a new document with your text in it. Below is a sample document we have created for this tutorial and we will see a word count for this document only.
Step 3: To see Word Count of the entire document then just go to Tools >> Word Count. you can even check Word Count for a single paragraph or multiple paragraphs by selecting the paragraph text and clicking Tools >> Word Count.
Step 4: That’s it. A new popup window will appear with information like Pages, Words, Characters, Characters excluding spaces. As you can see in the below Screenshot, We have a total of 8 Pages with 1081 Word count and 7039 Character count. Along with that it also shows us Characters excluding spaces.
If you want to see Word Count in google docs while typing the document then simply Click the Checkbox which says “Display Word Count While Typing” and click “OK” to Apply Changes.
Using Keyboard Shortcut
For Windows: Windows Users can Check Word Count in Google Docs by pressing Ctrl+Shift+C on their Keyboard.
For Mac: Mac users can see Word Count in Google Docs by using Command+Shift+C
How to check the word count on Google Docs on mobile
For a mobile device, you don’t need any Keyboard shortcut key and you can directly check the word count using your Google Docs App.
Check Word Count on Android Device
You can check Word Count in Google Docs Android Application too and it is really easy.
- Go to Google Docs app on your Android Device.
- Select the Existing document or create a new one.
- Click on the “Three dots” icon given on the right side of your screen.
- Select Word Count to see the number of words and Characters in that given document.
If you want to check the Word count for just a small part of the document then select that part of the google doc and follow the above steps to only check the word count for the selected text.
Check Word Count on iPhone & iPad
- Open the Google Docs app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Open an existing document or create a new one.
- Tap Three dots icon given on the right-side of your app.
- Select Word Count to see the word count and Characters count of the given document.
To check the word count of the certain part in the document, select the text from the document and follow the above steps.
